Waiting to Exhale

 

Since the election results were confirmed, a semi-euphoric wave of premature relief has swept across America and the world; in anticipation of a new year and a new president.  As we know from every horror movie we've ever seen, such relief is seldom warranted.

 Anyone who has been paying attention these last, long four years could have predicted what unfolded at the nations capitol on Jan. 6th.  Anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear could see the red flag warning signs...there were so many.  Any student of our political system could easily see the storm building; and a great many of us did, hobbled by an unshakable sense of being helpless to stop it.

 Like a cloud of voracious locusts Thousands of  StormTrumpers swarmed the nations capitol after their beloved cult leader whipped them into a feeding frenzy with his litany of oft-repeated lies mixed with distorted semi-truths tailored to his agenda.  This was Trump's "plan-B"- used in desperation after losing every election related court case and vote recount.  It was a well planned, very organized para-military operation.

 The ringleaders were peppered throughout the 8000 strong mob storming the capitol building, calling out orders to different cell groups.  We now know they had a very specific agenda...They were actively hunting Speaker Nancy Pelosi, VP Mike Pence, and Chuck Grassley, president pro-tem of the Senate...the next three people in line of succession after the president!   The Maga mob came equipped with a functional gallows, and several of them carried handcuffs and zip-tie restraints. There is a video from inside the capitol during the height of the mayhem, showing the mob attempting to gain access to the chamber where the votes were being counted.  The audio is quite clear as the woman shot caller had a bullhorn, and said to the mob: "So, people should coordinate together if you're going to take this building."  Hmmm.

As is always the case, in the days following the assault more & more information, videos, and personal accounts are surfacing.  We're getting a more complete picture of what happened, and increasingly that picture is getting uglier by the day, its also developing the very familiar stench of conspiracy.  This was an inside job. 

 An organized mob numbering  over eight thousand with radios, weapons, Zip-ties/handcuffs and floor plans, swept into the capitol building and simply overpowered the meager force of capitol police officers.  Some of these cap-cops were filmed opening doors for the mob, and in at least one case, took selfies with members of the Maga army.  This happening while another cap-cop, Brian Sicknick, was being beaten to death by the mob.  Very early on in the assault of the capitol someone anonymously phoned in two pipe bombs, found at the nearby RNC  &  DNC Headquarters: almost as if to draw law enforcement away from the capitol building. Just like the gallows, these pipe bombs were fully functional. Three days after the assault capitol police officer Howard Libengood committed suicide.  Hmmm.  Currently there are 15 incidents of capitol police misconduct being investigated.

 The capitol police department is larger than some large cities with around 2300 active duty officers.  How come on Jan. 6th 1900 of them stayed home, leaving just 400 of their Brothers-in-Arms to face down the violent hoard of 8000?  I wonder what Officers Howard Libengood and Brian Sicknick would have to say about that!  

Meanwhile, capitol police officer Eugene Goodman damn well better get the fullboat sky blue hero treatment.  Goodman is the African American officer seen in video clips tricking the Qanon leader & many others into following him, away from where Mike Pence and many congressional members were attempting to gain safety...into a hallway where more cops were waiting to deal with them.  If a few more like Goodman had shown up for work that day it might have made all the difference.  From now on I'm just calling him Black Panther!

Members of congress were completely on their own for 90 minutes before the first help arrived.  90 minutes?  What were all the cops doing for that long?  Watching a movie maybe?  So, let me get this straight...the white house declined help offered from several nearby police departments.  An angry, violent mob of eight thousand is storming the capitol and the word comes to "stand down"? No assistance required, "We got this" came the reply!!  Same story with the National Guard; they weren't called for support, not even to protect the lives of those assembled within the building counting electoral college votes!!!

 When asked why not, white house spokesman said that they were concerned about what kind of "message" it would send when the world saw images of National Guard fighting with [white] protestors.  Really?!?  I find it very strange indeed that they weren't at all concerned with those issues during the peaceful BLM protests, having as they did, hundreds of National Guard soldiers in formation on the capitol steps that day.                                     

 Reports continue flowing in that the mob included as many as 30 active duty cops and military personnel, including the retired Air Force col. in flak vest, helmet & carrying zip-tie handcuffs.  How can those who have sworn to protect and serve consciously partake in armed, deadly insurrection against the very country they are sworn to defend?  This doesn't track at all, unless it IS an inside job.

 On Jan. 5th; GOP members of congress gave guided tours to some visitors at the capitol complex who were exhibiting suspicious behavior and seeking unusual access...was this a Maga recon mission?  Things that make you go Hmmmmm? It is worth noting here that the capitol building suspended ALL public tours due to Covid-19 protocols back in March last year...then there is the fact that these same suspicious people were among the mob the next day.  So, which GOP Senators gave the tours, to whom, and why?  Inquiring minds want to know!  Our capitol is a massive concrete labyrinth with 5 floors, 540 rooms and 850 doorways.  Its so confusing even some rookie members get lost now & then. Like I said, Inside Job.  

The Boston Globe reports that congressional aides complained on Jan. 6th that all of the emergency "panic buttons" had been removed from congressional offices!! What???  That is almost as incriminating as building 7 on 9/11, so why is the story not getting as much air time as we gave Trump?  Boy, the stench is getting thicker.

Among the cascade of questions floating around the insurrection, perhaps the most salient is this:  Where exactly is Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, and why hasn't he  spoken a single word about the biggest crime any president has ever committed??  The one official who should be leading the charge is AWOL, Why?

 Social media was used to promote the Jan. 6 rally on the ellipse, (just 16 blocks down Pennsylvania ave. from the capitol) so the claims we're hearing now "We didn't see this coming" are even more cowardly and evasive than they were on 9/11.  That dog don't hunt, never did.  Didn't see it coming?  Maybe they should read their memos, because according to the Washington Post; A letter or memo had been received by congress on Jan.3rd, warning of possible civil unrest at the capitol during the electoral college vote count!  What were they waiting on, Nostradamus?  Exactly identical to 9-11; "We didn't see it coming because we ignored intelligence briefings."

The rally had been promoted on several social media platforms for several  weeks.  The excuse they didn't see it coming is so lame it insults our intelligence.  They're so perniciously blasé they don't even bother coming up with a decent lie.  That's how little they regard the rest of us.

 In the Better Late than Never Department; social media wasted little time in deciding to permanently ban Trump  from platforms across the spectrum in response to his inciting insurrection.  Have you ever played chain reaction or  falling dominoes where elaborately created designs are made by standing dominoes on end; then pushing the first one over causing a cascade destruction of the creation?  What we're watching now is kind of like that.  Donald Trump shot himself in the foot while attempting a bloody coup; complications set in immediately, compounded by his arrogance, amplified by his ego, the wound will eventually prove fatal.  Good riddance.

 Now, several days after the capitol assault, across the planet everyone is dumping Trump as if he had Covid-19 or something: move over Typhoid Mary, here comes Covid Donnie for your place in history.                                                                    

 Indeed, Trump being banned for life from all social media is a gift to the world, but especially to us Americans.  For the world at large the last four years have been like having your neighbor's car alarm going off 24/7 - for us Americans its been like being IN that car!  Quality of life just got noticeably better; however we may soon discover that the ban just drives him to underground dark web platforms where he can orchestrate his agenda in real time without censorship.  We may have just traded the constant annoyance of Trump tweets for the dread conjured up by his silence.  Good trade.

 Everybody saw this coming, most of all the StormTrumpers!  As he stoked the fires of insurrection Trump told his disciples to march on the capitol, to fight for their country and that he would be right there marching with them...and they believed him.  Instead of leading his army into battle as he had just promised, when the time came he hastily retreated to the safety of the white house, where he proceeded to watch with great glee the mayhem he had created. 

 Five hours after the insurrection, after conferring with Trump, his lawyer Rudy Giuliani left a voicemail for Senator Tuberville, but sent it to the wrong person, who then shared the recording with the press.  In the message,  Giuliani is heard pressuring the Senator to object to every state as the roll was being called to count electoral ballots, in an enhanced effort to bog down the process as much as possible, and stop the count.  That is what was on Trumps mind in the wake of the assault he ordered up!

Trump issued his invitations to the 2021 white privilege jamboree at the capitol, promising it would be Wild, and over 8000 Maga StormTrumpers responded, looking for a fight.  For their part, those charged with protecting the capitol and representatives on the day the electoral votes were being counted might as well have laid down a red carpet.  A handful of white shirted cap. cops is no match for 8000 fired up rioters, which is why all offers for aid were rejected & the national guard never called in.  This was an inside job, straight up.  Somebody let it happen.

 Do you suppose there might have been a somewhat different outcome if it had been 8000 Black Lives Matter supporters swarming the capitol?  You're damn Skippy right it would have ended different, the body count would have been soul wrenching.  I rest my case.

 Picture if you will; Donald Trump cowering terrified, and isolated in the white house, watching his empire falling apart.  Twitter and all other social media platforms permanently ban him. Republican sycophants jumping ship like so many rats, losing support on all fronts, lost prestigious golf tournament, Deutsche bank dumped him like he is radioactive. Because he is!  Nearly all the rats have jumped ship, sources say Trump is isolated, alone in his white house inner sanctum.  Now would be a good time for Ivanka and Melania to pull a Laverne & Shirley.  He needs to loose everything.

Any hunter will tell you how dangerous it is to press a wounded, cornered animal.

 We're seeing a whole new side to Donald Trump and its name is desperation: as he struggles in vain to conjure a way to remain relevant & out of jail.  He doesn't dare shift his focus away from that, lest his tiny, damaged brain thinks about the caravan of lawsuits lining up to take a shot at him while there's still something left.  Speaking of left I wonder where Melania is?

 Trump aides are now saying he is alone, isolated in the residence and does not understand the historic and long term international ramifications of unfolding events.  He is said to be very angry and cares only about how the second impeachment will affect his Brand!  Just great; we now have an angry, bitter, wounded psychopath barricaded in the west wing, with the nuclear codes...what could go wrong in a week?  Trump's ignorance, stupidity and ego have been on display all along; and every step of the way we allowed Mitch McConnell to act as his enabler, protector and fluffer-in-chief.  Lets all hope that Mitch is scared enough to do the right thing and convict the prick this time!  Did you see how fast Lindsey Graham back stepped into Trumps arms after other republicans became worried "the mob" might go after anyone who betrays Trump, like Mike Pence for example.

Trump emerged from the white house on Jan. 11th  for the first time since the attack.  As if to demonstrate how far gone his mind is; he arrogantly said that many people, including many experts and people on television had read and analyzed his speech on the 6th and said there was nothing wrong with it...without citing a single actual source (Same as the phone call he was impeached over.)  That little peek into Trump's dementia is all we need to affirm that we are now very deep in uncharted territory.  We're beyond the help of history, we've never had a president this demented, deranged & dangerous.  William Shakespeare called it the undiscovered country, the future.  Well we're there now and none of the old maps can help us, We the People need to create new maps to guide us thru this undiscovered country: and if WE don't create them, someone else will, and trust me, you don't want that. 

What makes Trump so dangerous is his total disconnect from reality; combined with his toxic narcissism.  He really believes he can do anything he wants without accountability.  He even told us exactly that four years ago.   When asked about being impeached for the second time, Trump said "Being impeached again could anger my followers which could be very dangerous for the USA especially at this very tender time."  The following day, after refusing to invoke the 25th amendment to remove Trump from office immediately; Mike Pence said, "I urge you and every member of congress to avoid actions [impeachment] that would further divide and inflame the passions of the moment."  No matter how you slice or spin it, those are threats!! The classic Mafia "protection" racket, specifically.    Of course Trump said he would not be attending Biden's Inauguration; He's already shown us numerous times what a coward thru and thru he is, and he sure doesn't want to be caught up as a victim of his own insurrection.

 Some GOP members say they feared for their families lives if they voted for impeachment, and AOC was afraid that some of the GOP members she was sheltered with during the attack would phone her location to the mob...that says all we need to know about what has become of "our" political system.

Repealing Reality

So...the quisling GOP and their newly discovered consciousness calling for "unity" is not only BS, it is gutless, self-serving BS.  If you condense all the GOP objections to the 2nd impeachment down to their core element; it translates closely as "We should just ignore what Trump did since he has only 6 days left in office."  As if he's actually doing anything resembling his job!  We must also factor in that they aren't really protecting Trump as much as they are salvaging whatever's left of their collective careers.

 Those lame, pathetic republicans urging to NOT impeach again showed themselves to be a morally bankrupt, non-serious, infantile pile of slugs totally incapable of governing a wet dream.  They deliberately refuse to acknowledge that in both life, and the dictionary, Accountability comes before unity and consequences come before healing.  The only things they excel at are the art of obfuscation and deception.

Now we're daily being 'reminded' of the on-line jungle drums beating out the call to arms, and ongoing threats for massive violence in all 50 state capitols...I guess the powers that be CAN see this coming; judging from the images coming out of DC with the capitol looking every bit like a war zone.  Where was all this precautionary security on the 6th??

One thing is for certain, the Jan. 6th assault was just the opening skirmish in a race war that many on various 'sides' have been working long & hard to ignite, the first round in a 12 round battle.  The actors have all been given their scripts, the props and cops are all in place; it's almost show time.  Jan. 6th was just the trailer, the feature length movie begins soon, very soon.

 One week to the day after the capitol assault, Trump was impeached for the second time.  He wanted to set records as a leader; well he got his wish.  History will remember him as the only American president to be impeached twice, and very likely the first to be convicted.  His new brand, "Pariah."  On the evening of his second impeachment, Washington DC has been turned into the Baghdad green zone, a military no-go zone; swarming with troops and cops of every sort. Tonight military troops are bivouacked inside the nations capitol.  That hasn't happened since the civil war!  There are currently over 25 thousand troops in DC, more than are in Afghanistan & Iraq combined! with 9500 National Guardsmen streaming in as well.  ...  All to protect the American people from Donald Trump!

The Future of Free Speech

You can ban trump from social media, but you cannot stop him from holding rallies without shredding the concept of free speech.  Yes, most of us understand the rational limits of free speech, but Trump doesn't, and he doesn't care that he doesn't understand; and as we've repeatedly seen, mafia Don doesn't learn from experience.  He will continue to touch hot stoves because he craves the attention it gets him.  Just like those rallies.  Mark my word: He won't be out of office very long before he holds a Mega Maga March, or rally somewhere, he has to, his ego is addicted to the attention & adoration, much more so now that he lost Twitter & Facebook. 

 Yes in his battle to remain relevant, and the kingmaker of the former republican party; Trump will whine about & demand his freedom of speech.  He will continue to promote hatred and violence.  He will continue promoting his core lies in order to incite violence against his perceived enemies with zero regard for legal consequences.  We already know this because we've been paying attention.  So, what to do?  We simply cannot permit citizen Trump to flagrantly disregard reasonable limits on the freedom of speech as the whim may strike him.  He already believes he is above the law in a class of his own, we simply cannot show him he is right by ignoring future violations of the law.

 Trump thrives on chaos, that's why he creates it every chance he gets.  He exploits, promotes and incites lawlessness because he cannot win playing by the rules. 600 Trump rallies in 4 years will get you some sedition and insurrection.  From here on he's only gonna ramp up the rhetoric, the hate and the volume in future White Privilege Jamborees.  It's conceivable that since Trump is the leader of the Maga army [his words] the government might classify him as a domestic terrorist and try to ban future rallies altogether, but that gets real messy real quick.  First his army of disciples would go absolute ape shit; and second, banning his future hate rallies just makes his case for him while decimating the very concepts we hold so dear.  Perhaps in their infinite wisdom leaders of the not-so-distant future will simply do away with free speech entirely.  It will be the platform Don Jr. runs on in 2024.

Meanwhile across the country, you may have noticed that the Covid-19 vaccine rollout is in Full-Goose-Fubar mode...show of hands here; who didn't see that coming?  Would you care to guess why the rollout is so Fubar??  Its because Mafia Don never funded the program for distribution and delivery. Trump pocketed that money, flat out stole it!  To cover the theft he simply promised 50 state Govenors that there was a huge reserve of vaccine doses which was of course yet another lie.  

His total inaction from the begining of the pandemic enabled Covid-19 to get a strong beach head in the country resulting in hundreds of thousands dead.  He didn't do contact tracing, or any of the other things that should have been done.  Then he promoted drinking bleach to kill Covid, and began attacking the leading virlogists in the country. Worst of all he politicized the wearing of virus masks and PPE, resulting in his followers flaunting the precaution.  I wonder how Ben Carson feels about  it NOW.  

Christ, this is like trying to trying to run a tub full of bathwater without using the drain plug!  Feeling he could still do more; Trump ensured that his rallies would become Covid petri dishes, and for added value he was directly responsible for not one, but three Covid super-spreader events at the white house.  Then he got the Covid himself, but the virus gave him a pardon.

So, yes indeed: convict that rat bastard on his second impeachment charges in the Senate; followed 12 hours later by his execution via military firing squad, that is the penalty for High Treason, right?  For extra emphasis the government should freeze & seize all Trump assets, then use the proceeds to fund the vaccine program.  This should be done immediately because there will be a long line of folks who will be suing the Don, so we must move fast before his bones are picked clean. 

Speaking of stealing; it now appears that the Donald is looting the west wing on his way out.  The same day Trump's moving van showed up, his aides were filmed leaving with a large bust of Abraham Lincoln. 

 Sources are today reporting that Trump is playing merry hob trying to retain fresh legal representation for his upcoming Senate trial and the parade of civil & federal lawsuits lining up in the wings.  It might have something to do with him stiffing Rudy Giuliani for nearly a half million dollars in fees incurred while pursuing the multitude of legal challenges to the election.  Or maybe its fallout from inciting sedition & insurrection.  Maybe its a bit of both; but my guess is its because some people are just so toxic that even lawyers won't touch them.

Remember the marathon protests & civil unrest in Portland and Seattle not long ago?  All that was a dry run for the 2020 election, aka, Jan. 6th.  Conversly; Janurary sixth was a dry run for something much bigger and nastier soon to be rearing its ugly head.  You might want to stock up on a few necessities ahead of the inauguration just in case supply lines get disrupted...just sayin.

238 years ago, near the end of the civil war there was a planned coup by the continental army over the issue of unpaid military wages and unfunded pensions for soldiers.  confederate sympathizers in the congress circulated an anonymous letter in the army base at Newburgh, New York.  This letter suggested that the soldiers should take unspecified action against congress to resolve the pay issues.  On March 15 1783, George Washington gave an address to the soldiers at the army base.  It was an emotional appeal to the soldiers to not tear apart the fabric of our very young nation, he plead the case for reason and restraint.  Washington's Newburgh address is so powerful it was made mandatory reading for all American military officers.  Maybe the address has wisdom we could use today as we face this country's greatest challenge ever.  Its been an agonizingly long four years since Donald Trump lied, bullied and intimidated his way into the white house.  From day one it has been a ride on the roller coaster from hell.  For 1453 days we have struggled against cognitive dissonance and held our collective breath in disbelief as Trump doubled down on the insanity with each new scandal, crisis or treasonous act.  As we near the end of Trump's reign of terror, our minds are reeling and our lungs are burning.  We are waiting for it to be over so we can at last exhale, to bring in a fresh new breath of air, and we are, for the most part, hopefully  optimistic... and as we know from every horror movie we've ever seen, such relief is seldom warranted.
